Just because it’s not bikini weather anymore doesn’t mean you can’t have smooth skin. You can stay fuzz-free all year round with a Brazilian Wax
from Beaucage.
At Beaucage, our expertly trained and experience estheticians ensure that waxes will be as gentle and painless as possible. At Beaucage, our experienced team of estheticians took home an Allure “Best of Beauty” award in 2011 for our coveted waxing treatments. The Improper Bostonian also crowned Beaucage as having the “Best Wax in Boston” in 2012.
For your safety, Beaucage Spa uses a special heat-sterilization method called autoclaving for all of our metal implements. Autoclaving represents the highest level of sterilization and is standard procedure at medial facilities in the U.S. (in accordance with AMA, FDA and EPA guidelines), but is still relatively rare in the nail salon and skincare world.
Here are a few frequently asked questions and tips our estheticians have complied to help you prepare for your first Beaucage Brazilian Bikini Wax.
Q: What Is A Brazilian Wax?
A: The Brazilian Wax removes all hair from your nether regions as painlessly as possible. ??You may choose to have everything taken off, or to leave a shape on the front. Most people choose a strip or a triangle. Please be very specific when letting your esthetician know what you want. When we say “all” hair, we mean every last strand from front to back.
Q: Does It Hurt?
A: Of course ripping hair out of follicles isn’t going to be an utterly comfortable experience. However, in the hands of an experienced esthetician the process is only a little bit painful. You might not want to wax four (4) days before, or four (4) days after your menstrual cycle. You will find it is a little more painful on these days. It is also more uncomfortable if you are overly tired or are feeling a little under the weather. It’s not that we can’t perform a Brazilian Wax on these days; it’s just a little less comfortable for you.
Q: Will I Be Uncomfortable After My Brazilian Wax?
A: For those of you who are getting a Brazilian Wax for the first time, I would say probably. Let’s put it this way, the coarser your hair and the more sensitive your skin, the more sensitivity you will feel during and after the wax. Some first-time clients are uncomfortable for an hour or so and others feel a little bit sore for a day or two. Additionally, it is important not to wear tight jeans or pants if it is your first time waxing. And don’t throw yourself into a spinning class or do anything else that involves a lot of friction right after a wax! Ouch! The best way to minimize the discomfort is to take an ibuprofen 20 minutes before you wax, another after your wax, and then use a cool compress on the area if needed. (But remember not to place the ice directly on your skin.) You won’t need to do this every time, but it may help the first couple of times. Once you start waxing regularly, it will become a breeze and you likely won’t feel any discomfort once the wax is finished. Plus, we always use fabulous balms to treat your skin after a wax to ensure the most rapid relief possible!
Q: How Long Will The Results Of A Brazilian Wax Last?
A: It really depends. Hair grows at different cycles, depending on the person and sometimes your cultural background. Also, shaved hair does not grow back in one cycle. I am seeing more and more that after a first wax, shaved hair will still appear days after the wax. This is typically because the client didn’t wait long enough for ALL of the hair to grow out. You will, however, notice that after a few Brazilian Waxes, your hair will start to grow in much slower and finer. (Shaved hair is much thicker, because it gets cut off at its thickest point.) Therefore, don’t have high expectations after your first wax of extremely smooth skin. This comes with time and the patience of growing all of your hair out at the same time. But believe me, it pays off.
How to Prepare for Your Brazilian Wax:
Hair must be a quarter of an inch (about 10-14 days of growth) to adhere correctly to the wax.
Resist the urge to shave between sessions. Shaving chafes the skin and creates sharper, coarser hair!
Gently exfoliate your bikini line the night before your wax. Exfoliating the skin in this area will keep ingrown hairs at bay. It’s a good idea to make a habit of this, especially if you’re prone to ingrowns.
Chill. Come to your appointment as relaxed as you can. Like a lot of things in life, the anticipation is often worse than the actual event. Don’t listen to friends who tell you their waxing horror stories. They don’t come to Beaucage! This is your experience and we want it to be a good one!!
Take a deep breath. We often ask clients to take a few deep breaths and to try to relax their muscles once they get on the waxing table. Don’t worry—it really doesn’t hurt that much. And trust me, we want you to come back, so we won’t do anything to traumatize you!
Know that it gets better. We get that first timers don’t know what to expect. Our advice is to acknowledge that the first one will be the most uncomfortable, especially if you’ve been shaving prior to it. However, it doesn’t have to be the worst thing you’ve ever done. Most of the time, people leave our room pleasantly relieved that the wax wasn’t nearly as bad as they expected. Every wax after the first one gets easier, especially when your hair starts growing in finer and we weaken that horrid follicle!
Remember, it will be over before you know it. Being fuzz-free is so worth a couple minutes of discomfort!
